A Distant Prospect eBook Sean Chapman
Much like the career of the protagonist in the book, I found this a bit slow to start. Sean Chapman seems to have a real inside knowledge of the world of theatre. He explores this world with attention to minor details such as the behaviours and traditions that people adhere to and what really goes on behind the scenes. The bleakness of Riley's situation allows the reader to connect to the character and empathise with him as most people experience the same setbacks and uncertainty in their professional and personal lives, no matter what career one undertakes. Chapman manages to keep the text light with some subtle humour and the feeling of not knowing what will happen next keeps the reader filled with fear and hope for Riley and engaged with the book.Product details

A Distant Prospect eBook Sean Chapman Reviews
A Distant Prospect is a fascinating insight into life behind the scenes through the eyes of an aspiring actor. When I read the blurb I was instantly intrigued, and Chapman certainly didn't disappoint as I found myself both laughing out loud and feeling complete sympathy towards Riley as he fights for his big break. There's a nice love story amidst the layers of the plot too. I'd recommend this to anyone with an interest in the theatre or for those simply looking to read something a bit different.
Sean Chapman's experiences as actor seemed to have informed his novel. A Distant Prospect is an intimate portrait of the anxieties and stresses of the profession. It takes you back-stage in a way that few other novels have ever done. Book has a romantic/emotional layer to it as well. There is a nice love story, that's not always predictable. It is possibly a little over-written in places like most literary novels, but this is a book that anyone who loves the theatre will enjoy.
